Practicing What I Preach

brb

Hi friend,

I’m taking some time off. From this newsletter, from social media, from the internet as a whole (lol is that even possible?) until I start to feel like myself again. We take mental health seriously over here, and I don’t want to pretend to be something I’m not.

Being a professional book person is hard. Commodifying your interest is great in theory—until you start to hate it. I need to take some time away, deciding on books based on what I feel like reading, regardless of their buzz or pub dates.

Right now, that looks like feeling 15 again while I reread the Twilight series for the first time. It feels good.

If you’re a paying subscriber, don’t worry—I’ve paused subscriptions until I come back.

I hope you’re reading something that fills your cup.

xoxo

  3. Ashley, I’m so sorry to hear you’re having a hard time, but I have such deep respect for this decision. It’s incredibly hard to step away from things, especially our newsletters, which can feel so attached to output, so GOOD FOR YOU.
